According to official sources, while the SLBC's news broadcast did not carry the news report, a talk show hosted by the station to discuss contents in daily newspapers referred to a report in The Island , known for its hardline and anti-LTTE position.

The LTTE was responding to a news item quoting Navy Commander Vice Admiral Daya Sandagiri that was broadcasted by the government-owned Sri Lankan Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) Saturday morning. The report had claimed the LTTE's leader and its Intelligence Chief were among the dead or missing.

*"RAMWatch certainly knows that quoting unidentified sources is not uncommon. However, when a particular publication quotes unidentified souces very frequently while reporting a particular community related news, it is worthwhile to suspect the statistically_very_high frequency. This evokes any rational reader's inquisity to investigate honesty, integrety and trustworthiness of the souces and as the result, agenda of the news publishing organisation.
