COLOMBO: Sri Lanka's international donors on Monday said the three-year-old ceasefire agreement was facing its "most serious challenge" and wanted the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam to "take immediate public steps to demonstrate their commitment to the peace process and their willingness to change."

பிபிஸியின் செய்தியிலே கூறப்பட்டிருப்பது, "The donors said the only way to end Sri Lanka's ethnic conflict was a negotiated political settlement based on a federal state for Tamils."

த இந்துவின் செய்தியிலே இதற்கு மாற்றாகக் கூறப்பட்டிருப்பது, "...Reiterating their "unequivocal condemnation" of the assassination, they said: "This unconscionable act of terrorism casts profound doubt on the commitment of those responsible to a peaceful and political resolution of the conflict." They said an "immediate end to political assassinations by the LTTE and an end to LTTE recruitment of child soldiers," were "two such steps.".."

LTTE killings draw flak

Key donor nations on Tuesday warned that the Sri Lankan peace effort was facing its “most serious challenge.”

They also slammed the LTTE for carrying out political killings and asked all parties to exercise restraint during the presidential campaign.

Donor Co-Chairs urge LTTE to stop killings, recruiting children

Colombo: The Co-Chairs of the Sri Lanka's donor countries, which met in New York yesterday to discuss the deteriorating situation in Sri Lanka in the wake of the assassination of Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar, have urged the LTTE to put an immediate stop to political killings and recruitment of children to its ranks.

The Co-Chairs of the Tokyo Donor Conference in support of the peace process in Sri Lanka met in New York on 19 September to discuss the current situation in Sri Lanka, following the assassination of Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Kadirgamar.

The Co-Chairs reiterate their unequivocal condemnation of the assassination of the Foreign Minister. This unconscionable act of terrorism casts profound doubt on the commitment of those responsible to a peaceful and political resolution of the conflict.

The Co-Chairs call on the LTTE to take immediate public steps to demonstrate their commitment to the peace process and their willingness to change. An immediate end to political assassinations by the LTTE and an end to LTTE recruitment of child soldiers are two such steps.
